US airman who fell 170ft to his death from Texas stadium rafters before a college football game is identified

Tech Sergeant Ian Patterson, a decorated 15-year Air Force veteran, was killed during a pre-game rappelling demonstration at San Antonio's Alamodome on Saturday. He was treated on the field before being rushed to hospital, where he died. Patterson was a tactical air control party instructor with the 6th Combat Training Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio. 'This tragedy is felt deeply across the 57th Wing,' said commander Brigadier General Scott C. Mills.

The display came before the UTSA Roadrunners took on the Navy Midshipmen.

Patterson was named Air Force Special Warfare Enlisted Instructor of the Year in 2022.
