US and China agree to 'AI dialogue' and incident alert system ahead of Trump-Xi meeting

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met Chinese counterpart He Lifeng in New York, agreeing to open a dedicated channel for communicating shared concerns about artificial intelligence. The talks mark a significant step toward managing AI risks between the world's two largest economies before a Trump-Xi summit.

Bessent said the US proposed an AI incident alert system as part of the new dialogue framework.

The agreement comes ahead of an expected meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
