Todd Blanche insists the DOJ is not blocking Alaska's Senate result after Trump says he ordered the lawsuit
Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski broke ranks, saying the Justice Department 'should never have filed' the case. The suit, filed Thursday, claims independent Daniel J. Sullivan Jr, a retired teacher, ran to mislead supporters of Senator Dan S. Sullivan. Common Cause and the ACLU have moved to intervene to stop it. Democrat Mary Peltola called it 'a very desperate attempt to cling to power'.
At a Florida rally, Donald Trump branded the dueling-Sullivans row 'cheating like hell'.
The Alaska Supreme Court had already rejected a bid to remove Daniel J. Sullivan from the ballot.
Some department officials reportedly raised concerns about the case's merits and constitutionality.
