Republican senator Lisa Murkowski says the Justice Department 'should never have filed' Trump's Alaska election lawsuit
Attorney General Todd Blanche insisted on Saturday that the case 'does not seek to stop' certification of Alaska's Senate result. Filed on Thursday, the suit claims retired teacher Daniel J. Sullivan Jr is on the ballot to mislead backers of Senator Dan Sullivan and help Democrat Mary Peltola. President Donald Trump has said: 'I'm the one that said do it.' Peltola branded it 'a very desperate attempt to cling to power'.
Common Cause and the ACLU have moved to intervene to stop the DOJ blocking the results.
Murkowski says Alaska has already clearly marked out both Sullivans on the ballot.
Some Justice Department officials reportedly raised doubts about the case's merits and constitutionality.
