Milwaukee Archbishop Jeffrey Grob says the Heritage Foundation-organised meeting was meant to be private, with the White House refusing to confirm whether bishops' consent was sought.

Milwaukee Archbishop Jeffrey Grob issued 'A Public Apology', saying the video was posted without the bishops' consent. Trump aide Margo Martin shared the clip of 12 bishops praying over the president on October 22. Des Moines Bishop William Joensen wrote: 'I wish I had been more shrewd and less simple.' The White House declined to say whether it had sought permission.

The Heritage Foundation organised the meeting, which Grob believed would include only private prayer.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers: 'There has never been a greater president for Catholic Americans.'
