US chipmaker AMD's shares jump 8% after its data centre sales nearly double and it forecasts 80% growth next year
AMD posted quarterly revenue of $13.4 billion, a 45% year-on-year increase that beat Wall Street expectations, with adjusted earnings per share of $2.09 against a consensus estimate of $1.95. CEO Lisa Su told analysts that overall revenue would grow by more than 80% in 2027 — ahead of the 77% analysts had pencilled in — with data-centre chips accounting for 80% of next year's sales.
AMD's data-centre segment, now 64% of total revenue, set a quarterly record at $8.55 billion — up from 47% of revenue a year earlier.
AMD gave up a $1.07 billion non-cash charge after offering equity warrants to OpenAI and Meta in exchange for chip purchase commitments worth up to $60 billion.
