US Coast Guard searches for 11 people still missing after a boat sank off Mexico's Baja California coast
One of the 16 survivors rescued from the Pacific has a suspected shark bite, while two others are in a critical condition. Coast Guard Lt Santiago Tamburini said victims were 'holding onto each other, to debris' to stay afloat. A helicopter reached them roughly two hours after a mayday call at 1am. Search crews are now covering 950 square nautical miles of ocean.
The Mexican consulate has confirmed that those rescued were Mexican nationals.
The vessel sank 140 miles west of Ensenada, in waters known to be used by migrant smugglers.
