US defence chief Pete Hegseth's aides broke Eisenhower's WWII globe after refusing to wait for furloughed historians to move it

The partial government shutdown that sidelined the Army's trained curators ended on 3 February, the SAME day the 30-inch globe was wrecked. Hegseth's crew lost control of the 1930s relic, punching a gash several inches wide near Antarctica. The Army confirmed the sphere was knocked off the metal frame it spins on. The Pentagon's response: 'Accidents happen', and it dismissed the story as an 'inconsequential non-story'.

A source blamed an 'apparent lack of patience' for skipping the specialist movers.

Retired brigadier general Ty Seidule: 'Hegseth is no Ike.'

The globe never reached Hegseth's office and is now being repaired.
