US envoy Steve Witkoff is to present Putin with a peace plan today after 'constructive' Oslo talks with Zelensky

President Donald Trump piled pressure on Kyiv on the eve of the meeting, warning that if Ukraine fails to make a deal 'it's just going to get worse'. Witkoff will meet Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg, with Jared Kushner also taking part. The envoys are expected to push for the release of Steven Hubbard, a 72-year-old American teacher held hostage. The proposal covers security guarantees and a postwar economic plan for Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky hailed 'positive signals' and says he was promised 'strong' security guarantees.

Trump said this week that 'Zelensky doesn't know what he's talking about'.

Trump has also waived sanctions so the US can buy Russian diesel, which has enraged Kyiv.
