US-hosted G20 talks are ending without a joint statement after Miliband told Lavrov 'we all know you are the aggressor'

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband confronted Sergei Lavrov face-to-face at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, telling the Kremlin envoy that a Russian drone strike had killed 15 people at Dnipro railway station just the day before. Around a third of countries — including EU nations, Australia and the UK — refused to be photographed with Lavrov, forcing US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to scrap the traditional 'family photo'. The summit is wrapping up without a joint communique, with deep divisions over Ukraine blocking consensus.

The US separately approved the sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine for an estimated $2.1 billion, funded entirely by European allies and Canada.

Lavrov dismissed the photo boycott as 'family photo diplomacy' and said Zelensky's comments on striking Russian targets were unhelpful to peace talks.

Miliband's dig at Trump — urging all countries to deprive Putin 'of the revenues that perpetuate this barbaric war' — came days after the president waived fresh sanctions on Moscow.
