US judge hauls government lawyers into court after Trump vows to overhaul historic Washington golf course despite her order
District Judge Ana Reyes gave the government until 8pm Sunday to clarify its position after Donald Trump posted that work on East Potomac Golf Links will begin on 15 November. As recently as Friday, government lawyers had told her Trump had given the plan 'at most' 'preliminary thought'. The course is expected to close for around 15 months. An emergency hearing before Reyes is scheduled for Monday.
Around 430 trees were cut down over Columbus Day weekend, a move Reyes called 'inexcusable'.
Trump wrote off the course as 'old, broken, dilapidated' and 'disease infested'.
The administration wants Reyes removed from the case as the DC Preservation League pursues its lawsuit.
