US judge orders Trump to sit for a deposition in his $10bn BBC lawsuit by December 11 or risk dismissal

BBC lawyer Charles Tobin told a Miami court that Trump pulled out of an agreed October 16 session, citing a 'matter of national importance', before travelling to Georgia to campaign. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett also declined to block the seven-hour session from being recorded on video. Tobin said Trump's team had produced 'absolutely nothing of any substance'. The case centres on a Panorama edit of his January 6 speech.

The BBC alleges Trump is trying to delay his deposition until January 2027.

Director-general Tim Davie and news chief Deborah Turness both resigned over the Panorama edit.

Opposing counsel were divided on the question of a deposition for former special counsel Jack Smith.
