US judge rules Cornell 'Jane Doe' can stay anonymous and warns online mob that threats could bring federal charges
More than 25,000 posts on X claimed to name the accuser within a week of one user urging followers to 'discover the Cornell girl'. Judge Phaedra Perry-Bond ruled that the danger outweighed any need to reveal her identity. She alleges seven Chi Phi fraternity members drugged and raped her in 2024. All seven deny it and none has been charged. Her lawyer Thomas Giuffra said she was 'relieved'.
Letitia James is reportedly hiring outside counsel after criticism of her 'prejudicial' comments.
The judge offered to extend the same anonymity to the seven accused men.
President Trump weighed in, saying the accused 'won't get a fair shake'.
