US military strike kills five on an alleged drug boat in the eastern Pacific as the campaign's death toll passes 240
A go-fast vessel erupts into a fireball in the eastern Pacific, in a strike US Southern Command described as targeting "narco-terrorists" — though no evidence was provided identifying the five killed or their cartel…
The latest US military strike on a suspected narco-trafficking vessel has pushed the overall death toll from Trump's maritime campaign to 240 or more, distributed across upwards of 70 strikes since September 2025. Southern Command confirmed that Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere carried out the strike against a go-fast boat in the eastern Pacific on Tuesday, releasing footage of the vessel consumed by a fireball. The military provided no photographs, drug samples or documentation to establish that the boat was actually carrying narcotics.
Senior adviser Eric Geressy told a Santo Domingo coalition meeting that maritime trafficking corridors have fallen 64 per cent in the Western Caribbean since Operation Southern Spear began.
Legal scholars and rights groups contend the strikes may constitute extrajudicial killings, and the Pentagon's watchdog disclosed in May its intention to probe whether proper targeting protocols were followed.
In one earlier strike, two survivors clinging to wreckage were killed when the vessel was hit a second time — a follow-up the White House confirmed.
