US police release bodycam showing a suspected sailboat thief firing at officers before they shoot him dead in Rhode Island

Brendan Norris, 27, had stolen the 1968 Hinckley Bermuda 40 yawl named Pathfinder from Liberty Harbor Marina in Jersey City on August 22 before anchoring it in Newport Harbor. Newport Police Chief Ryan Duffy released the footage as part of the department's first-ever "critical incident community debriefing," stressing transparency.
As two officers boarded the vessel, Norris opened fire, hitting one cop in the leg and face with shrapnel.
The 19-second exchange ended with Norris dead from a gunshot wound to the head; two officers dived back onto the harbormaster's boat mid-firefight.
'The party armed himself with a firearm and shots were fired,' Duffy confirmed; the injured officer has since returned to work.
