US pulls staff from Middle East embassies as spy chief warns Iran's plots to kill Americans are at 'advanced stages'
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an October 23 memo that Iran had 'substantially increased efforts to target US personnel'. Staffing has been cut at US embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the UAE. Non-emergency staff were ordered out of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. Asked on Saturday about striking Iran again, President Donald Trump said: 'There's a possibility I will.'
US Central Command has drawn up options to strike Iran after the November midterms.
Clayton's one-page memo names no specific targets or countries outside the Middle East.
Envoy Tom Barrack said a strike could 'absolutely' come this weekend; Trump said he knew nothing about it.
