US regulators approve Boeing's 737 Max 10 for passenger flights after years of delays and safety concerns

The certification clears Boeing to start handing the jet to airlines, with first deliveries expected in 2027. The Max 10 seats up to 230 and was unveiled at the Paris air show in 2017 to take on Airbus's A321neo. Its lower fuel burn appeals to carriers hammered by soaring jet fuel bills during the US war with Iran. The approval hands Boeing a major boost in its bid to rebuild its battered reputation.

Two crashes of the smaller Max 8 killed 346 people in 2018 and 2019.

In 2024 a panel blew off an Alaska Airlines Max 9 in mid-air.

Airbus's biggest A321neo still carries more seats and flies further without refuelling.
