US regulators clear Boeing's 737 MAX 10 to carry passengers after a six-year delay and nearly 1,000 test flights
A Boeing 737 MAX, the jet now cleared to carry passengers after US regulators certified the 230-seat model, with more than 1,500 on order and deliveries expected within months.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said certifying a Boeing jet in Europe takes less than half the time it does in America, warning China is 'playing to take over in aviation'. He handed the certificates to Boeing at a ceremony in Everett, Washington. More than 1,500 of the 230-seat jets are on order. Boeing will begin deliveries within months.
The jet was due in 2020 but stalled after two MAX crashes killed 346.
A navigation glitch flagged in September was finally ruled not a safety concern.
United boss Scott Kirby says seats bought for the jet now sit in a warehouse.
