US Supreme Court rejects Trump's bid to stop California counting 20,000 ballots from suspected non-citizens on the eve of the midterms

The Supreme Court ruled against the Trump administration on Monday night, rejecting its emergency request without any noted dissents and without even asking California to file a response — a rebuke legal experts called extraordinary. The DOJ had delivered a USB drive to election officials in mid-October naming 20,000 alleged non-citizen voters and gave just 48 hours to comply, but courts at every level sided with California.

The administration acknowledged its database of alleged non-citizen voters was riddled with errors, yet pressed on to the highest court on the eve of Election Day.

California Governor Gavin Newsom warned federal judges he has 'grave concerns' the DOJ will now seek warrants to seize ballots, election records and voting machines.

A DOJ attorney was separately accused of lying to a federal judge during a ballot hearing, with one observer calling proceedings 'wild'.
