JD Vance is branded tone-deaf after answering a US student's housing question with a joke about a senator's backside
Sarah Matthews, a former Trump White House deputy press secretary, wrote that she "genuinely cannot believe this is a real exchange between a voter and the Vice President.
Kate White, a Texas Christian University student and vice president of her campus Turning Point USA chapter, put a question to Vance at a Fox News town hall in Fort Worth, Texas: how can young Americans realistically be expected to marry and raise families when the average US home carries a price tag above $415,000? Rather than engaging with the housing crisis, Vance began by tallying how many questions he had taken before joking that only Fox host Jesse Watters had raised the subject of Ohio Senator Jon Husted's backside.
The quip echoes Trump, who has made a habit on his midterm rally tour of lauding Husted's physique and describing his backside as 'like a pile of muscle.'
Vance did eventually turn to the substance of the question, attributing soaring home prices to illegal immigration and Wall Street firms buying up homes.
