Kate White, a Texas Christian University student and Turning Point USA vice president, asked Vance at a Fox News town hall in Fort Worth how young people are supposed to afford families when the average US home costs over $415,000. Vance's response — quipping that he'd received just one question about Ohio Senator Jon Husted's backside — went viral with over 6.9 million views on X within hours.

Vance eventually blamed illegal immigration for soaring housing costs, claiming 20 million migrants had displaced American homebuyers.

Vance separately told host Jesse Watters he was 'jealous' Trump had praised Husted's physique but never his own, joking he should 'get back in the gym.'

Critics branded Vance 'tone deaf' and lacking 'even basic charisma' for ducking a serious affordability question days before the November 3 midterms.
