US warns California ballot officials they risk prosecution after 28 noncitizens are charged with voter fraud

The Trump administration has threatened California officials who process ballots from suspected noncitizens with criminal prosecution, escalating pressure on the state amid a sweeping voter fraud crackdown. The warning follows the Justice Department's charges against 28 green card holders with election crimes, 11 of them arrested in early-morning raids. Prosecutors are also suing to stop ballots linked to more than 20,000 'likely' noncitizens being counted. The midterms are less than three weeks away.

Trent McCotter: 'Every illegal vote cancels out the vote of a lawful American citizen.'

California Attorney General Rob Bonta dismissed the 28 charged as 'a drop in the bucket'.
