President Donald Trump privately raised concerns about broadcasting Nidal Hasan's firing squad execution after discovering that the wheelchair-bound killer would appear on screen unable to walk. According to reports, Trump had no idea Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth had already announced the livestream plan before he began reconsidering it with advisers. The execution is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, Texas — the US Army's first execution since World War II.

Hasan, 56, was partially paralysed by gunshot wounds sustained when he was arrested following the 2009 massacre that killed 13 soldiers and wounded 32.

Death penalty expert Corinna Barrett Lain warned the broadcast would be 'a gift to jihadists worldwide' and that America 'could be paying for this decision for decades.'

Americans interviewed on the matter largely backed Hasan's death sentence but called the proposed livestream 'an abomination' and 'absolutely absurd.'
