Vehicle crashes through Leipzig airport fence in Germany near Russian cargo planes months after Moscow was blamed for drone plot
Flights on the north side of Leipzig/Halle Airport were suspended after police found the gaping hole just before 11pm on Saturday. Leipzig police said it was 'highly likely' a vehicle had ploughed through from a public road. No intruder or vehicle was found on site. Federal and state police, firefighters and forensics teams are still searching the grounds.
The breach sat beside three Russian Antonov cargo planes grounded there by EU sanctions since 2022.
Germany blamed Russia for an explosives-laden drone found near a runway in August, which Moscow denied.
Investigators say it is not yet clear whether the fence breach is linked to the drone incident.
