Vincent Kompany is stable in hospital but will be out for weeks after collapsing at Bayern Munich training

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl says the club must protect the 40-year-old 'even from himself'. Doctors are running tests to determine exactly what happened, and Kompany will remain in hospital for several more days while awaiting results. He had been battling a viral infection, and Eberl noted there were 'minor problems' last week as well. Training and matches will be led by Kompany's coaching staff until further notice.

A rescue helicopter landed at the Sabener Strasse base after Friday's collapse.

Kompany was still in the dugout for Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal.

After that game Kompany said: 'I didn't listen to my body.'
