Vivek Ramaswamy takes responsibility for the Ohio attack ad starring Amy Acton's estranged mother, and spends $4m airing it

In the one-minute spot, Donna Arthur describes her daughter Amy Acton as 'a liar' and tells Ohio voters to deny her the governorship. Acton has said her mother's husband sexually abused her between the ages of 10 and 12 while her mother 'did nothing to protect me'. The Ramaswamy campaign says Arthur received no payment. The ad is reported to have tested well among 'persuadable' voters.

Campaign manager Jonathan Ewing called it 'a campaign-ending moment for Amy Acton'.

Acton's brother Philip Stearns branded the attack 'a despicable low'.

GOP strategist David Urban told CNN the ad may end up hurting Ramaswamy among voters.
