Waitress, 15, wins £13k after she was sworn at for dropping an apple crumble at a Highlands hotel

Daniesha Charles says the chef at The Royal Thurso Hotel called her 'that' and 'it' from her first days in the job. Edinburgh Employment Tribunal upheld her claims of age, sex, race and disability discrimination and harassment. She was the only Black female worker among 14 staff and earned £7 an hour in May and June 2024. Daniesha, who has dyslexia, stayed silent for fear of losing her job.

The chef also scolded her for misspelling the word 'porridge'.

General manager Andy Woodcock and the chef swore at South African and Nepalese staff, but never at white men.

The tribunal heard she endured a 'tirade of abuse' over the dropped pudding.
