Jeremy Clarkson, 66, was offered a large load of hardcore for a limited time and wants to lay it on the field used as The Farmer's Dog car park before the winter rains turn it to mud. West Oxfordshire council has not given permission. 'We've rung. We've begged. We've pleaded,' he wrote in his Sunday Times column. 'And all we get back is silence.'

He says he faces 'similar problems' with the council over his Diddly Squat farm shop.

Café, antique shop and guesthouse owners nearby also want answers, Clarkson says.

He fears the row will cause 'nervous breakdowns' and says 'it's going to kick off'.
