Care home nurse struck off after stealing £400,000 house and £370,000 from vulnerable 99-year-old she called 'nana'

Rebecca Louise Burwood, deputy manager at Bryn Yr Haul Care Home in Mold, Flintshire, exploited a frail 99-year-old woman over six years, siphoning off her entire £400,000 home and a further £370,000 in cash and purchases. The Nursing and Midwifery Council struck Burwood off the register after finding she had secretly obtained Lasting Power of Attorney without telling her employer, then used it to drain the pensioner's accounts — spending rose from under £1,000 a month to over £10,000 once she had control. The victim, left isolated after a fall with no family to protect her, had trusted Burwood so deeply she called her 'nana'.
The stolen money paid for cosmetic surgery, a car, a campervan, and a £61,000 home extension Burwood claimed would let the pensioner move in with her.
When police looked into the matter they closed it without charges, as the 99-year-old declined to make a complaint, convinced that Burwood had 'learned from her mistakes'.
The tribunal found Burwood deliberately hid the power of attorney from the care home so she could continue misusing the pensioner's funds undetected.
