Minister admits he has not followed his own government's stockpiling advice but has 'quite a lot of coffee'

Paymaster general James Murray conceded on live TV: 'I'm not going to pretend I've followed all that advice myself yet.' The 'Be Ready' checklist asks every household to keep three days of bottled water, tinned food, cash and a wind-up radio. Prime Minister Andy Burnham defended the campaign, saying 'unexpected events' are becoming more common. He even suggested a glass of wine to get through a crisis.

Murray refused to go further: 'I'm not going to say here's a government shopping list.'

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting rejected a Question Time audience member's 'scaremongering' charge over panic buying.

Tom Tugendhat asked the audience who already had supplies, and most of the room raised their hands.
