Tower Hamlets, Kensington and Chelsea, and Camden have also posted double-digit falls, as official ONS figures show 20 of the capital's 32 boroughs are now cheaper than they were 12 months ago. Rents are rising across almost every borough at the same time, with Islington up 6.2% in the year to August, squeezing Londoners from both directions.
Nationally, house prices rose 1.4% to an average of £273,000, with Andy Burnham's Greater Manchester — led by Trafford, up £35,164 — among the UK's top-performing areas.
Flat prices nationally are down 2% year-on-year, their largest annual drop of any property type, with Zoopla reporting that 88% of inner-London flats go unsold after six months on the market.
