Westminster City Council has confiscated upwards of 1,000 dockless bikes from its streets since May and sent fixed penalty notices exceeding 5,300 to operators, generating more than £53,000 in fines. Deputy leader Caroline Sargent said teams logged a record 217 seizures in a single week after the council doubled enforcement patrols. The crackdown came as London Assembly members met operators to debate how dockless schemes should be regulated across the capital.
Sargent said each seizure represents 'a resident who has been inconvenienced' — including wheelchair users blocked from pavements.
