White House wades into Shane Gillis gym-outfit row after SNL monologue sparks national backlash

The White House has weighed in on the Shane Gillis controversy after the comedian's SNL monologue about women's gym clothing sparked a week-long national row. Gillis, 38, told the live audience he "didn't know women just dress like whores now" during his third time hosting the show. Michael Che, his SNL colleague, shrugged off the furore on the Today show, saying simply "that's comedy."

Gillis' ex-girlfriend Grace Brassel hit back with an Instagram gym workout video captioned 'Full Body Workout for H*es.'

Che admitted he missed the monologue live, saying he was busy at cue cards 'thinking about what I was gonna say that was gonna make people upset.'

Actor Dan Levy called the joke 'misogynistic' — a clip Brassel reposted before writing 'ANYWAYS… y'all need anything from the store?'
