Who Is Brendan Nugent? Views of Suspect in Helen Haines Car Attack

Brendan Nugent, 43, had allegedly spent years making life a misery for those living near him in Tarrawingee — intimidating residents and even killing a family pet by driving over it. His home was a run-down block on the edge of the Victorian township of around 400 people, strewn with empty alcohol bottles and waste amid overgrown vegetation.

Police say Nugent rammed Haines twice against another car outside her Wangaratta office on Monday.

He faces charges including intentionally causing serious injury and harming a Commonwealth official.

Nugent is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
