Reform treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick chased an alleged shoplifter through Brixton after the man snatched a bottle of Dr Pepper from a Greggs, filming the confrontation on the busy high street. The man brazenly claimed staff 'always give us drinks', prompting Jenrick to grill him: 'Why do you think you can take things when everyone else is paying for them?' Jenrick then walked the bottle back into the shop and told staff a 'bloke had just come in and nicked this'. He warned that shoplifting is adding £50 a year to every British family's food bill.

The shoplifter told Jenrick to 'relax', insisting 'we ask and they say yes' — met with 'oh, they're happy with it, are they?'

Jenrick said afterwards: 'The government is making it worse by letting prisoners out early — Reform will come down on shoplifters like a ton of bricks.'

Business robbery has NEARLY DOUBLED in a year, rising from 15,546 to 29,669 offences in England and Wales in 2025-26.
