Wigan widower builds a Back to the Future Halloween display for his late wife after raising over £55,000 for Macmillan

Dave Barron, 61, of Wigan, has devoted months to constructing a replica DeLorean time machine as the centrepiece of his Back to the Future-themed Halloween display — an annual memorial to his wife Catherine, who died of cancer in 2020. Visitors are invited to donate at the door, and the tradition has now brought in over £55,000 for Macmillan, the charity that supported Catherine in her final months.

Barron has put on the Halloween spectacular every year since 2011, with his 27-year-old daughter Sarah and a network of local businesses helping to bring each display to life.

Local Tesco supplies more than 500 sweets for him to hand out each year; Barron says it is 'a small price to pay if it helps people suffering with cancer'.
