'Wild-eyed maniac': Russell Brand tried to drag MTV worker into men's toilet, rape trial hears
Russell Brand, who denies three counts of rape among seven charges, allegedly told one accuser she would "have to learn to enjoy it" — a phrase she said left her wondering: "Is this what abusers do?Russell Brand faces allegations spanning 1999 to 2009, with one accuser saying he transformed from "camp and friendly and effeminate to monster-like" moments before the alleged attack.
An MTV worker told Southwark Crown Court on Friday that Russell Brand switched in an instant from "affable" banter to a "wild-eyed maniac" who grabbed her forearm with a "forceful grip" and tried to haul her into the men's toilets in 2001. She said she managed to "wrench" herself free, adding: "I came away relatively unscathed — he didn't manage to rape me." Brand, 51, denies three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of indecent assault involving six women between 1999 and 2009.
The woman said she stayed silent at the time because Brand was "a big asset" at MTV and she had a mortgage to pay.
An earlier witness told the court Brand turned "monster-like" and raped her in a hotel room after she invited him in believing he was gay.
Former flatmate Andrew Dobson told the court Brand was "very egotistical" and that sex was a "huge preoccupation" on every night out.
