Wildfires kill four trapped firefighters in Indonesia's worst blazes for a decade

Four people, including national park officers and volunteers, died after being trapped by smoke and advancing flames in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java on Thursday. Satellites detected 799 hotspots nationwide, more than double the previous day's count, with most blazes raging across Sumatra and Borneo. Indonesia has accepted foreign assistance to fight what authorities are calling the country's worst forest fires in over a decade.

The dead were among a 12-member team dispatched to the area; two other survivors sustained serious burns and had to be treated at a hospital in Surabaya.
