William Shatner pays tribute to Star Trek co-star Walter Koenig, the original Chekov, who has died aged 90

Walter Koenig, who played navigator Pavel Chekov across all three seasons of 'Star Trek: The Original Series' and six films, died of natural causes at his North Hollywood home on Sunday aged 90. William Shatner, 95, said the two shared the original series and six films together, and that Koenig's gift for genuine connection with fans was rare and would be long remembered.
George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu, wrote: 'My heart is heavy — Walter and I stayed friends for nearly six decades.'
Takei revealed Koenig turned 90 on September 14, the same date Takei and husband Brad celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Kim Cattrall, who appeared alongside Koenig in 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country', also paid tribute on Instagram.
