Wind-up radios sell out across Britain after Labour's 'Be Ready' campaign tells households to stockpile for a crisis

At least seven models had sold out across four retailers by Saturday, just two days after ministers added battery and wind-up radios to their emergency checklist. Maplin says torch sales have soared 284 per cent and power bank sales are up 106 per cent. The guidance recommends households keep three days' supply of cash, bottled water and tinned food on hand. Defence secretary Wes Streeting insists Britons should be 'alert not alarmed'.

The campaign kicks off a three-year initiative addressing hazards including flooding and wildfires.

Scotland leads the UK for preparedness searches per person, research by The Prepared Household finds.

Shoppers in the West Midlands are hunting for emergency torches, power banks and blackout kits.
