Simba, a nine-year-old springer spaniel from London Fire Brigade's forensic fire dog unit, found the glove Mark Neville had dumped in a bin near the Dingley Road hotel in Islington. It carried his DNA, as did glass fragments from the bottle. CCTV caught a masked figure in black lighting it and hurling it over a temporary gate at 10:53pm on 24 September 2025; security guards put out the flames and nobody was hurt.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley said the attack was 'designed to terrify residents and the local community'.
Mark Neville's convictions also include carrying a bladed article and having a stun gun on private premises.
'Overwhelming proof that he was motivated by hate', says Met Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley, who led the investigation.
