A black Vauxhall Corsa ignored a police stop order on Harehills Road, Leeds, just two minutes before it struck and killed the woman on Beckett Street at 09:52 GMT on Wednesday. The car was later found abandoned on Nippet Lane, its occupants having fled on foot. West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team has assumed control of the investigation.

The 19-year-old, held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, remains in custody.

West Yorkshire Police have seized the Corsa for forensic examination and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward.

Because officers had contact with the vehicle before the pursuit began, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
