Woman, 28, is declared brain dead after being stabbed in the neck in a random attack on her way to meet her parents

Katie Suarez, a bank cashier training for the New York City Marathon, was knifed in the neck on a Brooklyn waterfront promenade just after 8pm on Friday. She had texted her parents to say she was only half a mile away when she was attacked. Her father found her bleeding in a grassy area near Bay 17th Street, Bath Beach, and she was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital.

NYPD deployed scuba teams, aviation units, K9s and drones — but no arrest has been made.

Neighbours described Katie as "very kind" and of "very good character."

She has since been declared brain dead and remains on life support.
