Woman, 36, is killed by a car fleeing police in Leeds as a man, 19, is arrested

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a black Vauxhall Corsa that refused to stop for officers on Harehills Road struck and fatally injured a pedestrian on Beckett Street in Leeds at 9:52am on Thursday. The vehicle was subsequently discovered on Nippet Lane, where it had been left by at least two occupants who fled the scene.
The car has been taken away for forensic examination, with West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team heading the investigation.
Because officers had previously had contact with the car before the fatal collision, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Anyone who captured dashcam footage of the Corsa on Beckett Street, or who witnessed it before or after the crash, is asked to call police on 101.
