Man, 61, is held on suspicion of murder after a woman who crashed into a Bridgend wall had 'unrelated' injuries
Armed police, drones and officers climbing onto the roof surrounded Ger-y-Nant, a 13-flat sheltered complex for over-60s, before the overnight arrest. Neighbour Darren Owen, 33, said he saw officers bring a man out at about 1am. The driver, 47, from North Cornelly, had crashed on Coity Road at 12.43pm on Monday. Residents were moved out of their homes overnight while a cordon stayed in place.
Ch Supt Jason Rees called it a 'deeply distressing incident' with no further injuries.
The woman's family has been told, but formal identification has not yet taken place.
Owen said the retirement home was the 'last place I expected to see armed police'.
