Woman is found dead in Torquay after previous police contact, as a man in his 50s is arrested on suspicion of murder

Devon and Cornwall Police have made an IOPC referral after a woman was found dead at a property on Teignmouth Road, Torquay, because officers had previously been in contact with her. A man in his 50s from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of murder and other offences after paramedics pronounced the woman dead just before 9pm on Tuesday evening.

Detective Inspector Dave Ireland says police are keeping 'an open mind' on the circumstances surrounding her death.

The IOPC referral, which police stress is standard procedure, raises questions about what prior contact officers had with the victim.

Officers have increased their presence on Teignmouth Road and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
