Duane 'Keffe D' Davis, who admitted in his memoir to passing the gun used in the 1996 killing, faces 40 years to life after jurors convicted him in just three hours.Tupac Shakur, whose 1996 drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip went unsolved for nearly three decades, becoming one of the most notorious cold cases in music history.
Duane 'Keffe D' Davis, 63, has been sentenced to at least 40 years in prison for masterminding the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed rap icon Tupac Shakur, closing a cold case that gripped the music world for nearly three decades. Judge Carli Kierny handed down the sentence at Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, telling Davis he could not simply move on from taking a man's life. Tupac's sister Sekyiwa Shakur told the court her brother's murder had 'crippled my family' and left her hospitalised multiple times for depression and trauma.
Davis, the former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, was convicted in August — the only person ever charged in Shakur's killing.
His own 2019 memoir, in which he admitted passing the gun to the shooter in the white Cadillac, proved central to his prosecution.
Davis told the judge 'I'm good — I'm gonna appeal this case for sure' before being led away in shackles.
