Irene Miller, 50, a Russian-born photographer from Kissimmee, Florida, left her four children — aged 9, 11, 12 and 14 — unsupervised overnight for nearly a week while she travelled to Las Vegas for work from October 18, and refused to fly home even after police told her that her youngest son had been hospitalised with a head wound.
Miller arranged only a daytime babysitter who drove from Tampa each morning, leaving the children alone every night.
The 9-year-old was struck by a dumbbell that fell while the children were building a blanket fort, leaving him with a bloody forehead wound glued shut at Celebration Hospital.
After hanging up on deputies, Miller called the 14-year-old on speaker — in front of police — to berate him for 'getting her in trouble', prompting the officer to conclude: 'She knew what she did was wrong.'
