Zelensky says Trump's Russia sanctions waiver is a 'reward' for Putin while Moscow strikes Ukraine's power plants
The Kremlin hailed the decision, with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev calling the suspension of the Graham Act 'a truly historic moment'. President Donald Trump signed the executive order late on Friday, days before the sanctions were due to take effect, and told Congress it was in the 'national interest'. Overnight Russia launched four cruise missiles and 332 drones at Ukraine, hitting more than 15 energy sites.
The paused law threatened tariffs of up to 100% on the top five buyers of Russian energy.
The waiver came just a week after Trump agreed a deal to buy Russian diesel.
Volodymyr Zelensky said: 'This Act could have helped enormously — and still can!'
