Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
NewsHound ("we," "us," or "our") operates a news aggregation service that collects and summarizes headlines from US news publishers. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect minimal, non-personally-identifiable information to understand how our service is used. We do not require registration, login, or any personal details to use NewsHound.
Analytics Data (First-Party)
When you visit NewsHound, we collect the following through our own first-party analytics system:
- Session ID -- a random identifier generated per browser tab. It is not linked to your identity and is discarded when you close the tab.
- Browser fingerprint -- a non-reversible hash derived from general browser characteristics. This cannot be used to identify you personally.
- IP address -- used solely for approximate geographic analysis (country/region level). IP addresses are purged after 14 days.
- Referrer URL -- the page that linked you to NewsHound, if any.
- UTM parameters -- campaign tracking tags present in the URL, if any.
- Device type and browser type -- general categories (e.g., "mobile," "Chrome") used for aggregate compatibility statistics.
What We Do Not Collect
- Names, email addresses, or account information
- Precise geolocation data
- Browsing history beyond your NewsHound session
- Cross-site tracking data
We do not use third-party analytics services. All analytics are processed by our own systems.
2. How We Use Your Information
The analytics data we collect is used exclusively for:
- Understanding aggregate traffic patterns (page views, peak hours)
- Identifying which stories are most read
- Analysing traffic sources and referral channels
- Geographic distribution of readership (country/region level)
- Ensuring compatibility across devices and browsers
We do not build user profiles, serve targeted content based on individual behaviour, or attempt to identify individual visitors.
3. Third-Party Advertising (Google AdSense)
NewsHound displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Serve ads based on your interests and prior browsing activity
- Limit the number of times you see a particular ad
- Measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns
These cookies are set by Google, not by NewsHound. We do not control what data Google collects through its advertising services.
How to Opt Out of Personalized Ads
- Visit Google Ads Settings to manage your ad personalization preferences.
- Visit aboutads.info to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies.
- Use your browser's cookie settings to block or delete third-party cookies.
For more information about how Google uses data, see Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Data Retention
- IP addresses: stored for 14 days, then permanently deleted.
- Raw analytics data (session IDs, fingerprints, referrers): retained for 14 days, then deleted.
- Aggregated statistics (total page views, story popularity counts, geographic summaries): retained indefinitely. These contain no personally identifiable information.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade any user data. The only third party that receives data through our site is Google, via AdSense cookies, as described in Section 3. This data collection is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
6. Your Rights Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA:
- Right to know: You may request details about the categories of personal information we collect and how it is used. This Privacy Policy provides that disclosure.
- Right to delete: You may request deletion of personal information we have collected. Since we do not collect PII, this right applies primarily to IP address data within the 14-day retention window.
- Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell personal information to third parties. However, under the CCPA's broad definition, ad-related data sharing with Google may qualify as a "sale." You can opt out of personalized advertising using the methods described in Section 3.
- Right to non-discrimination: We will not treat you differently for exercising your CCPA rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contactus@thenewshound.com.
7. Children's Privacy
NewsHound is a general-audience news aggregation service. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of NewsHound after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
